During the
period of the Summer School, there are many cultural and sport events in the
Lugano region and in Ticino (the Swiss
Canton in which
the Università della Svizzera Italiana is located), most of them free. The web
site of Lugano Tourism offers a current
events calendar that allows you to specify the dates and type of events
that you would like to have listed. Some major events that usually take place
in Lugano or other Ticino locations in the months of June and July are the following:

Lugano Festival: Classical music festival (evening concerts with world renowned soloists and orchestras in Lugano's Palazzo dei Congressi, April - June) |

Ceresio Estate: Free evening concerts featuring chamber music with emerging musicians and organized around special themes (entire summer season from June to September, in different places in the Lugano region) |

|
Nocturnal boat cruises with music on the lake of Lugano (June – August). During the day, try one of the relaxing boat cruises (compare here for the list and timetable of daily cruises) and boat excursions to some of the lovely villages on the borders of Lake Lugano, such as Morcote, Gandria, Ponte Tresa, and others (within the excursion map, click on the destination of interest for details). |

Arts exhibitions in the Museo Cantonale d'Arte Lugano , in the Museo d'Arte Moderna and in the Museo civico di belle arti (throughout the summer). Also of interest is the Herman Hesse Museum in Montagnola near Lugano. Additional museums in Lugano and environment can be found here. |
